Armed Forces Week: Chemring Colleagues share their service experiences

To mark Armed Forces Week, we’re sharing stories from Chemring colleagues with a personal connection to military service. Our products protect our armed forces personnel, and many Chemring colleagues take pride in contributing to work that supports those serving today. Across the organisation, we also work with numerous veterans’ charities and some of our businesses are proud to be part of the Armed Forces Covenant.
Here colleagues reflect on their own service, the transition into civilian careers, and what it means to continue supporting the Armed Forces community through their work at Chemring.

Gary – HSSE Advisor, CEUK

“I served in the Scots Guards, in an armoured infantry battalion, as a combat assault pioneer. During my tours of Afghanistan, my job involved locating and disarming potential munitions, as well as setting up explosive charges when required.

When I left the military, I never imagined I’d end up working for a company that makes equipment I had used myself on operations. That gives me a real sense of pride in the work we do here. I know firsthand how important reliable equipment is to the people using it, and the difference it can make when it matters most.

For me, Armed Forces Week is about remembering the good, the bad and the ugly, as well as the friendships made and remembering the friends that were lost.”

Edward - Project Engineer, RD&D Air, CCM UK

“I spent 14 years performing at various events, parades and mess dos as a musician in the Royal Regiment of Wales (Now RWR) then Household Cavalry (mainly Blues and Royals). Some moments were more solemn than others, but I visited many countries and made many friends. It is always a privilege to have been part of the 'winning hearts and minds' side of the forces. And it’s nice to now work in a field that would have been particularly close to the heart of my Spitfire-flying grandad and know that we are keeping various platforms in the air and afloat.”

Wesley - Consultant Engineer Diffuse, Roke

“I left the RAF after 13 years as a Movements Controller.

Today, I'm excited about the work we do across Chemring and knowing that our technologies, whether deployed home or overseas, have real world effect. I'm also proud to be part of the Roke Veterans' Network supporting veterans and blue light services within Roke.”

Their experiences are a reminder of the people behind Armed Forces Week - those who have served, those still serving, and the families and communities who support them. At Chemring, we are proud that our work, our people, and our wider charitable support continue to help recognise and protect those who serve.
