This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating some of our Chemring apprentices, who are working towards different levels of apprenticeship, and sharing their experiences of an apprenticeship and what it has offered them.
Meet Oliver, Technical Apprentice at Roke, who is working towards his Level 6 Apprenticeship.
“I’m a Technical Apprentice and have been working at Roke for just over two years. I’m currently working towards a Level 6 Apprenticeship, and at the end of my three years I will gain a Batchelor in Engineering in Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development.
“I chose an apprenticeship as I feel it allows me to develop my skills faster than the traditional approach of just university. Plus, working with some world class engineers definitely helps! Earning alongside university played a part in the decision as well.
“The best thing is the people I get to work with day in and day out. Plus, I really enjoy the responsibility I’m given on projects as well as taking ownership of part development. I also find the work far more rewarding than the university side.
“My advice to anyone starting an apprenticeship is to have fun! Enjoy the first three years and the support available, talk to as many engineers as possible, and learn from them.”
