It’s World Wellbeing Week, we’re highlighting environmental wellbeing and the ways we can all better support the world around us, while at the same time improving our own wellbeing.
Julie from our Roke business has set herself some environmental goals for June.
Says Julie, “I set myself some environmental goals for the challenge – to reduce my food waste, the food packaging I use, and my food miles, and so far, I’m really enjoying it.
“I’ve started growing my own veg, only lettuce and courgettes so far, but I thought I’d start easy! I bought the seedlings from a local guy who’d grown them from seed, and I’ve loved watching them grow.
“I’ve also learnt about fermenting food and signed up for a workshop by Romsey Crop Swap to learn more about fermentation. It’s a great way to use up leftovers or prevent food from getting chucked out at the supermarket. Not only is it inspiring, but it’s also great for gut health too.
“Reducing waste and increasing my recycling has also been a priority. I’ve stopped buying plastic milk bottles and switched to oat milk for coffee, and I’m refilling glass jars from Lemon & Jinga, a zero-waste shop in Romsey.
“I’ve also been recycling all the bags you can’t put in your normal recycling bin, such as crisp packets and bread bags. I’ve been saving them up and taking them to the drop off point at the supermarket. This really highlighted how much I was otherwise putting in the bin.
“Lastly, I’ve learnt about a local veg delivery scheme called ‘The Veg Shed’ in which everything they provide is local and organic. They also do volunteer digs of the plot where you get a free lunch, which I plan to do one day in the summer holidays with my two teenagers.”
